A Tribute Event in Honor of Jody Connor, Former DES Limnology Center Director

In Honor of a Special Friend to Mirror Lake

A message from NHDES:

Please join us in honoring the memory of friend, mentor, colleague and former Department of Environmental Services (DES) Limnology Center Director, Jody Connor.  Jody passed away in June 2011, and in his honor we will be holding a memorial event and tribute to the man and his career in state service.

During the event the Governor has been invited to make some remarks about Jody’s contributions to the state throughout his career as the State’s Limnology Center Director.  DES’ Commissioner Tom Burack will talk about Jody’s role in shaping the lakes programs and how his work has impacted watersheds and water resources, and the people tied to them, across the state.  Robert Varney, former DES Commissioner and EPA Region 1 Director, will talk about the early days working with Jody.

Following the remarks, we will be unveiling a plaque that will be placed outside of the DES Limnology Center, which has been dedicated in Jody’s name.

Date:  Monday July 30, 2012

Time:  11am to 12pm

Where:  NH Department of Environmental Services Lobby, 29 Hazen Drive, Concord, NH

DES staff will also be preparing a slideshow that will be on display at the event.  We welcome brief remembrances, anecdotes, photographs or other items that you would like to submit.  Please forward any such items to Jim Martin of the DES Public Information Center at james.martin@des.nh.gov.

There is no need to RSVP, and we hope you will be able to join us at this memorial event.  Please share this with others who may like to attend.

Sincerely,

Amy Smagula

Bear sightings!

Bear sightings around Mirror Lake are becoming more common. NH Fish and Game advises taking down bird feeders; firmly securing trash containers; thoroughly cleaning grills; and not leaving food of any kind in cars, sheds, decks etc. Keep doors and windows locked at night and when you leave the house. Bears will avoid ammonia soaked rags and loud noises such as clanging pots and pans, airhorns, yelling, clapping and such.
